How it works

Frame times kept, to GIF's 10 ms step

Each frame keeps its own WebP duration, rounded to the 10 ms steps GIF can store. Very short frames are raised to 20 ms so no browser slows them to 100 ms, and the report says when a time moved.

Whole frames, blended as a browser does

Animated WebP stores frames as patches with offsets, blending and disposal. The page rebuilds every full picture first, the way a browser shows it, and writes those into the GIF.

The GIF is checked

After writing, the page reads its own GIF back and compares the frame count, every delay and the loop setting with the WebP. A file that does not match is reported and never offered.

Nothing leaves your device

Decoding, reversing and writing the GIF all happen in the browser tab. The GIF is never uploaded.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert WebP to GIF?

Upload the WebP and tap Convert to GIF. The page writes a GIF with the same frames and shows it playing. Tap Download to save it.

Does the GIF keep the animation speed?

Yes, to within 10 ms. GIF stores frame times in steps of 10 ms, so a WebP frame of 33 ms becomes 30 ms. A frame under 20 ms is written as 20 ms, because browsers play shorter GIF frames as 100 ms. If any time moved, the page says so.

Does it keep the loop setting?

Yes. A WebP that loops forever gives a GIF that loops forever, and one that plays three times gives a GIF that plays three times. The page checks this before you download.

How do I know the GIF is right?

Before you can download it, the page opens the GIF again and checks the number of frames, every frame time and the loop setting against the WebP. If anything differs, it says what and gives you no file.

Will the colours change?

Not when the WebP uses 256 colours or fewer. Then the exact colours are written and the page says Colours exact. Most photo-like WebPs use more, so a GIF palette is picked and colours may shift slightly. The page tells you which case you got.

What happens to transparency?

Clear pixels stay clear. GIF has no half-transparent pixels, so a soft edge is cut to fully clear or fully solid, and the page counts the frames where that happened.

Can I convert a still WebP?

Yes. A still WebP becomes a one-frame GIF.

Is my WebP uploaded anywhere?

No. The WebP is decoded and the GIF is written in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
