How it works
What is a color space and why analyze it?
A color space defines the total range of colors — the gamut — that a device, ICC profile, or standard can represent. sRGB is the default color space for web browsers and most consumer monitors. Adobe RGB (1998) covers roughly 50% of the CIE visible spectrum, making it critical for CMYK print color management. Display P3, Apple's wide-gamut standard, adds 25% more saturated reds and greens than sRGB. This image color gamut analyzer plots every sampled pixel in a 3D RGB color cube visualization, letting you see color distribution, clustering, and how much of the available gamut your photo actually fills. Out-of-gamut pixel detection and clipping analysis
Clipped pixels have at least one RGB channel pinned at 0 or 255 — a sign of overexposure, underexposure, or aggressive tone curve editing where highlight or shadow detail is permanently lost. This color clipping detector flags the percentage of affected pixels so you can assess whether re-editing from a RAW file is worthwhile. Near-edge pixels sit within 5 values of the gamut boundary and risk clipping after further processing or gamut mapping for print. Highly saturated colors push beyond sRGB limits and may shift when viewed on standard-gamut monitors vs wide-gamut Display P3 screens. sRGB (IEC 61966-2-1) covers roughly 35% of the CIE 1931 visible color spectrum and remains the default ICC color profile for web content, email attachments, and consumer displays. Adobe RGB (1998) extends the gamut to approximately 50% of visible colors — essential for photographers preparing images for offset printing, Pantone matching, and CMYK proofing. Display P3, defined by the DCI standard and adopted by Apple since 2016, is 25% wider than sRGB with notably more vivid reds, oranges, and greens.
