Most Tools Use No AI at All

The majority of Scanly's tools are deterministic image and metadata processing — EXIF reading, hashing, format conversion, error-level analysis, colour tools, barcode reading. Most of them run entirely inside your browser and the file never leaves your device. Those tools are not AI, and nothing about them is sent anywhere.

Tools That Call an AI Model

The tools below are the only ones that send your image off your device. They run on Replicate, which hosts the open models listed here. We do not train models, and your uploads are never used as training data by us.

Independence. Scanly is an independent product. The third-party model names shown in the table below are listed for transparency about what runs when. Scanly is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or officially associated with Replicate or any of the model authors listed. All model names and trademarks are the property of their respective owners.

Low-Light Enhancer	`mv-lab/instructir`	Brightens and cleans up underexposed photos.
Background Remover	`cjwbw/rembg`	Segments the subject from the background and returns a cut-out.
Object Remover	`allenhooo/lama`	Inpaints the area you mask, filling it from surrounding pixels.
Product Background	`logerzhu/ad-inpaint`	Places a product cut-out on a generated backdrop. Intended for objects, not people.
Alt Text Generator	`lucataco/moondream2`	A vision model that describes the image in words for accessibility alt text.
AI Image Detector	`google/gemini-3-flash`	A vision model used for the optional Deep Check pass, which estimates whether an image looks AI-generated.

No Face Model Runs

None of the models above detects, edits, reconstructs or replaces a human face. Uniform enhancement — upscaling, denoising, colourising, brightening — is applied to the whole image, with no separate face pass and no face-specific option to switch on. Face-restoration and generative-fill tools that could invent a person are disabled at the routing level, not merely hidden from the menu.

Tools that involve faces on Scanly do the opposite of manipulation: Face Blur redacts them, Face Counter counts them, and detection tools measure. Our Acceptable Use Policy states what is never permitted.

What Happens to an Uploaded Image

The image is uploaded over an encrypted connection and passed to the model host for that single run.
The result is returned to you. Server-side files are automatically deleted within 1 hour.
Files are never shared between users, never sold, and never given to third parties for marketing.
We keep an operational record of the run — which tool, when, how many credits — but not the image itself.

AI Output Is an Estimate, Not a Verdict

Detection and forensics results — AI-image detection, authenticity checks, tamper heatmaps — are probabilistic. They can be wrong in both directions. Treat them as one signal among several, not as proof about a person, a document or a claim.

Enhancement results are reconstructions. An upscaler invents plausible pixels; a colorizer invents plausible colour. Do not treat an enhanced image as evidence of what was actually in the original scene.
