How it works

Lossless, pixel for pixel

PNG keeps every pixel of the page exactly. 16-bit pages are reduced to 8 bits a channel, the most a browser can draw.

Transparency kept

Clear pixels in the TIFF stay clear in the PNG. The preview shows them on a checkerboard.

Every PNG is checked

Each PNG is decoded again before download and its size must match the page. The ZIP is opened again and must hold one PNG per page.

Unsupported TIFFs are named

Some TIFF types would come out as noise or wrong colours. The page reads each page header first and names the problem instead of handing you a broken PNG.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert a TIFF to PNG?

Upload the TIFF, then download one page or all pages. Every PNG is checked after it is written.

Does it handle multi-page TIFF?

Yes. Every page becomes its own file, named page-001, page-002 and so on. Download one page, or all of them in a ZIP that is opened again and counted before download.

Is TIFF to PNG lossless?

Yes, for 8-bit pages. A 16-bit page is reduced to 8 bits a channel, because browsers draw 8 bits. CMYK pages are turned into RGB.

Will the PNG be bigger than the TIFF?

Often about the same. PNG compression is lossless like LZW. A JPEG-compressed TIFF will grow, because PNG keeps every pixel.

Which TIFFs does it refuse?

CCITT Group 3 fax pages, ZSTD, JPEG 2000, BigTIFF, floating-point pixels, separate colour planes and JPEG-in-TIFF stored as RGB. The decoder reads these wrong without an error, so the page names the problem and converts nothing. Save the file again as LZW or uncompressed TIFF.

Is there a size limit?

40 megapixels a page and 200 megapixels for the whole file. A larger file is refused with its real size, never scaled down without telling you.

Is my TIFF uploaded anywhere?

No. The TIFF is read and converted in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
