Text & Image Watermarks

Add copyright text with custom font, size, and color — or overlay a logo or badge image. Switch between modes instantly.

Position & Tiling

Place the watermark in any of 9 positions or enable tiling mode to repeat it across the entire image. Adjust opacity and rotation for the perfect look.

100% Private

Your image never leaves your device. All watermarking happens locally in the browser using the Canvas API. No server upload, no storage, no tracking.

How the watermark tool works

This watermark tool uses the Canvas API to composite text or an image overlay onto your photo at full resolution. You choose the watermark type, adjust its appearance, and the tool renders it directly onto the pixel data in your browser — nothing is sent to a server. The output is a new image file with the watermark permanently applied. For removing metadata before sharing watermarked images, run the result through the EXIF Remover.

Text vs image watermarks

Text watermarks are best for copyright notices, photographer credits, and date stamps — set the font, size, color, and opacity to match your style. Image watermarks let you overlay a logo, badge, or signature with adjustable scale and transparency. Both modes support all 9 grid positions and tiling for full-image coverage. After watermarking, you can crop to a specific region with the Image Cropper or resize for different platforms with the Social Media Resizer.

Tiling and positioning

Single-position watermarks are easy to crop out. Tiling mode repeats the watermark across the entire image at regular intervals, making removal impractical while keeping the image viewable as a preview. Combined with rotation (commonly set to -30° or -45°), tiled watermarks are the industry standard for proof images and stock photo previews. The 9-position grid covers corners, edges, and center — bottom-right is the most common for photography credits. To verify what metadata is embedded in images you share, check them with the EXIF Checker.

Protecting your images online

Watermarks are a visible deterrent against unauthorized use, but they work best as part of a broader strategy. Combine watermarking with lower-resolution exports via the Image Resizer and metadata removal with the EXIF Remover to control what information leaves your device. If you suspect someone has removed your watermark and reused your image, the Similarity Scanner can compare the original and suspected copy.

This watermark tool runs entirely in your browser — no image data is ever sent to a server. The watermark is rendered at full resolution using the Canvas API and exported as a downloadable file. After watermarking, compress the result with the Image Compressor or convert formats with the Format Converter. Explore all 88 image tools. Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add a logo as a watermark?

Yes. Switch to Image mode and upload any PNG, JPG, or WebP file as the watermark. Transparent PNGs work best for logos — the transparent areas will show the photo underneath. Use the scale slider to adjust the logo size relative to the image.

What does the tiling option do?

Tiling repeats the watermark across the entire image in a regular grid pattern. This is commonly used for stock photo previews and proof images because a tiled watermark is nearly impossible to crop or clone out. Combine tiling with rotation (e.g., -30°) for the industry-standard diagonal pattern.

Does this tool upload my image to a server?

No. All watermarking happens locally in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your original image and watermark image are loaded into browser memory, composited together, and the result is generated as a downloadable file. Nothing is sent to any server.

Can the watermark be removed afterward?

The watermark is permanently burned into the pixel data of the output image — it cannot be removed or undone from the exported file. Always keep your original unwatermarked image. For maximum protection, use tiling mode with reduced opacity so the watermark covers the entire image.

What opacity should I use?

For subtle branding, 20-30% opacity works well — visible on close inspection but not distracting. For proof images, 40-60% is standard — clearly visible without completely obscuring the image. For strong protection, 70%+ makes the watermark dominant. The preview updates in real time so you can find the right balance.

Does watermarking affect image quality?

The watermark is rendered at full resolution onto the original image pixels. The output quality depends on your chosen format and quality setting — JPEG at 92% or higher preserves excellent quality. PNG output is lossless. The watermarking process itself does not degrade the underlying image data beyond the visible overlay.
