How it works

Whole frames, not stored fragments

A GIF often saves only the changed part of each frame. The decoder rebuilds the full picture for every frame, with the clear and restore rules applied, and that full picture is what goes into the PNG.

The ZIP is counted before you get it

Once the ZIP is written, the page reads it back and checks that it holds one PNG per frame. A short ZIP is reported as an error and never downloaded.

Transparency stays transparent

Pixels go from the decoded frame straight into the PNG. No background colour is added, so a GIF with a clear background gives PNGs with a clear background.

Nothing leaves your device

Decoding, PNG writing and the ZIP all happen in the browser tab. The GIF is never uploaded.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert a GIF to PNG?

Upload the GIF. Every frame appears as a picture with its own PNG button. Tap one to save that frame, or download all frames at once as a ZIP. A GIF with a single frame gives you one PNG.

Why do some tools give me broken or half-empty frames?

Most animated GIFs store only the part of each frame that changed. A tool that saves that stored part gives you fragments. This page rebuilds each full frame the way a browser shows it, including the rules that clear or restore the picture between frames, and saves that.

Does the PNG keep transparency?

Yes. A transparent pixel in the GIF is a transparent pixel in the PNG. Nothing paints a white or black background behind it. GIF has no half-transparent pixels, so each pixel is either fully shown or fully clear.

Is PNG quality lower than the GIF?

No. PNG is lossless, so each frame keeps exactly the colours the GIF shows. It cannot add detail the GIF never had, and the file is often bigger than the frame looked inside the GIF.

How do I know the ZIP has every frame?

After the ZIP is built, the page opens it again and counts the PNG files inside. If the count does not match the number of frames, it tells you and does not download anything. Files are named in order, like cat-frame-001.png.

Why can I only see some frames on the page?

Very long GIFs would make the page slow, so it shows the first 120 frames and says so. The ZIP still holds all of them.

Is my GIF uploaded anywhere?

No. The GIF is decoded and the PNGs are written in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
