How it works

Pick the frames you want

Keep every frame, cut out a range, or take every second or tenth frame to thin a long GIF. The page shows how many frames you picked before anything is written.

Frames keep their own numbers

Frame 7 is saved as frame-007 even if you started at frame 5. You can always tell which part of the GIF a file came from.

The ZIP is checked against your pick

Once the ZIP is written, the page reads it back and checks it holds exactly the frames you picked, plus frames.txt with each frame's delay. A wrong ZIP is never downloaded.

Whole frames, not stored fragments

A GIF often saves only the changed part of each frame. The decoder rebuilds the full picture, with transparency kept, and that is what goes into each PNG. Nothing is uploaded.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I split a GIF into frames?

Upload the GIF. All frames are picked at first. Change the range or the step if you want fewer, then download the frames as a ZIP of PNG images, or tap PNG under any frame to save just that one.

Can I get only part of a GIF?

Yes. Set From frame and To frame to the part you want. Setting Every Nth to 2 keeps every second frame in that range, which is handy for thinning a long GIF.

Why is my file called frame-007 when I started at frame 5?

Each file keeps the number the frame has in the GIF. That way a split set always shows where each frame came from, and gaps from the step setting are easy to see.

What is frames.txt in the ZIP?

A plain text list of every PNG in the ZIP with how long that frame is shown, in seconds. Use it to rebuild the animation with the same timing.

Why do some splitters give me broken or half-empty frames?

Most animated GIFs store only the part of each frame that changed. This page rebuilds each full frame the way a browser shows it and saves that, so every PNG is a complete picture.

What if I type a range that does not fit?

The page tells you what is wrong, for example a last frame past the end of the GIF, and does not write anything. It never quietly changes your numbers.

Is my GIF uploaded anywhere?

No. The GIF is decoded and the frames are written in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
