How the collage maker works
This collage maker composites multiple images onto a single Canvas element using cover-fit cropping — each photo fills its grid cell completely, cropping from the center to maintain focus on the subject. You can choose from 11 grid layouts ranging from a simple side-by-side pair to a full 3×3 grid of nine images. Spacing (gap between images) and border (outer padding) are independently adjustable. After arranging your collage, resize the result with the Image Resizer or compress it with the Image Compressor.
Drag-and-drop reordering
The thumbnail strip above the preview is fully draggable — grab any photo and drop it onto another position to swap their places in the collage. You can also remove individual images by hovering and clicking the × button, or add more photos with the "Add More" button (up to 9 total). The canvas re-renders instantly after every change. If you need to crop an individual photo before adding it, use the Image Cropper first.
Spacing, borders, and background
The gap slider controls the space between grid cells (0–60 pixels). The border slider adds outer padding around the entire collage. The background color picker fills both the gaps and the border — use white for a clean look, black for a dramatic frame, or any custom color to match your branding. For social media posting, resize the collage to platform-specific dimensions with the Social Media Resizer. To add text or arrows over the collage, use the Image Annotator.
Output sizes and export
The output size selector controls the width of the final canvas — from 1080px (good for Instagram) to 3840px (4K print-ready). Height is calculated automatically based on the grid layout's aspect ratio. The download is a JPEG at 92% quality, which balances file size and visual fidelity. Collages serve different purposes at different dimensions. Instagram feed posts work best at 1080×1080 (square) or 1080×1350 (portrait 4:5) — the portrait ratio takes up more screen space in the feed, increasing engagement. Facebook cover photos need 820×312 for desktop and 640×360 for mobile, so a collage for a cover should keep important content in the center where both crops overlap. Pinterest pins perform best at 1000×1500 (2:3 ratio), giving tall collages an advantage. Twitter posts display at 1200×675 (16:9). Matching your collage dimensions to the platform before uploading avoids unexpected cropping.
Visual hierarchy matters in multi-image collages. Place your strongest or most important image in the largest cell — layouts with one dominant image and smaller supporting images draw the eye more effectively than equal-sized grids. For before-and-after comparisons, use a simple 2×1 (side-by-side) layout. For product showcases, a 1+3 layout (one large hero, three detail shots) works well. If your images have different color temperatures or exposures, run them through Image Filters to unify the look before combining.
