Edit Detection

How it works

Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and other editing tools leave identifiable traces in a photo's metadata. Software name and version appear in the EXIF "Software" field. XMP metadata records the complete editing history including creation tool, modification dates, and document ID changes. Our Authenticity Checker detects these traces and flags photos that have been processed by editing software, helping you distinguish original captures from edited files.

Tips

Some photographers legitimately process every photo through Lightroom or Capture One — a software tag alone doesn't mean deceptive manipulation. Look for combinations: software traces plus timestamp inconsistencies plus compression anomalies are stronger indicators of problematic editing.
